News Irish News Man tasered in front of shoppers after attempting to ram gardaí

Gardaí were forced to taser a man after he attempted to run them over in a supermarket car park on Wednesday afternoon.

Armed officers had been called to the scene at SuperValu on Newcastle Road in Lucan, West Dublin shortly after 2pm.

It is alleged that the man, who is in his 30s, was involved in an assault and made threats to hurt a woman and children.

Sources have told Independent.ie that when officers arrived at the scene the man got into a vehicle and drove at them.

Quick thinking gardaí fired a taser at him and a short time later he was arrested.

A source said: "This man was extremely angry and made a number of threats.

"Gardaí used non-lethal force to bring him under control and luckily nobody was injured."

The entire incident was played out in front of afternoon shoppers.

A Garda spokesman confirmed that a man was arrested at Newcastle Rd, Lucan at 2.10pm on Wednesday.

He is currently being questioned in relation to the incident.
