Is this the celebrity endorsement that Hillary Clinton needs for a win in the US presidential campaign?

In a new standalone short, The Simpsons have declared themselves Team Hillary, with some not-so-subtle digs at Donald Trump.

Homer made the decision for the family in the clip called 3am, which is an animated parody of Hillary's political campaign ad featuring a ringing phone at 3am, asking Americans who they wanted leading their country during a time of crisis.

"It's 3a.m. and the phone is ringing in the White House," intones the narrator. "Who do you want to answer that call – Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump?"

We see the Clintons in bed and Bill answers the phone. “The Situation Room? I’ll be right there! Oh, it’s for you.” And he hands the phone to his wife. “Yes, from now on, it’s always for me,” says Hillary.

And then we see Donald Trump, who's tweeting like a madman and reading Great Speeches by A Hitler.

He also has a shaggy dog wrapped around his head for a toupee.

At first Trump ignores the call while his team of beautifiers spend hours on his spray tan, make-up and hair while the situation detoriates.

It's 11.30 before the Republican candidate answers the call.

"We're too late," Trump says incredulously as he answers another call. "The Chinese fleet is advancing? Just build another wall Yes, in the ocean, loser.”

The show's producers have highlighted an indisputable point: no presidential candidate is less equipped to handle a crisis than Trump.

After viewing the ad (which is “paid for by Americans who really starting to miss Obama”) Marge says, “Fine, my mind is made up.”

Homer’s still unsure, but when Marge says she questions whether she can ever be with him again, he announces: “And that’s how I became a Democrat.”
