The Public Appointments Service, which recruits and selects staff for the civil and public service, has issued a tender for a company to do an analysis of the competencies of a hospital consultant.
This is despite it already employing more than 2,900 consultants in the public health system. The tender says that a review was carried out by the HSE in 2016 "Towards Successful Consultant Recruitment, Appointment and Retention".
One of the actions for implementation from that review was the need to progress plans to carry out a comprehensive job analysis to identify the necessary competencies for the role of medical consultant.
It is intended that the job analysis will comprise field work including (but not limited to) focus groups with medical consultants (as well as critical incident interviews with a range of individual consultants), repertory grid interviews, some site visits and future focus interviews.
