It's a frightening state of affairs that six of the nine people killed so far this year on our roads were pedestrians - among the most vulnerable of all road users.
On Tuesday night, Martin Finn was killed after being struck by an SUV in west Dublin. The Ballyfermot native, who was in his 60s, had been walking along the Newcastle Road with his 17-year-old daughter when they were struck by the 4x4. She was left with serious injuries.
On Monday, cousins Josie Duff (79) and Kathy McDonald (70) were killed while crossing a road in Ardee, Co Louth, after getting off a bus and crossing to reach a parked car.
