A woman who took part in a 'honey-trap' scam where two men were robbed after being lured to a flat with the offer of sex in a threesome has been jailed for 18 months.
Mary Williamson (25) was jailed after pleading guilty to robbing one man and demanding money with menaces from another in separate incidents in Bantry, Co Cork, on September 5, 2010.
The men, aged 26 and 55, were separately approached and lured back to a flat in the west Cork town with the offer of "a threesome" with the defendant and another young woman.
Williamson and the other woman then threatened the two men and demanded cash. One of the men was threatened with a knife.
The two incidents occurred within one hour of each other, with the first happening at 1.30am. The 26-year-old was lured back to the flat and had ¤40 in cash and a mobile phone taken before he was thrown out of the property.
He reported the incident to gardaí. Garda Eoin Concannon told the court that he was on patrol shortly after and spotted an altercation near Market Street in Bantry.
When gardaí intervened, a 55-year-old man said he had been lured to a property after meeting two women in a local pub.
The two women asked him if he wanted a threesome. He declined but the two women, one of whom was Williamson, attempted to strip him.
They took ¤920 from him before threatening him and throwing him out of the house.
Judge Sean Ó Donnabháin was told that Williamson came from a difficult background and had serious alcohol and drug addiction problems. She originally had an address in Bantry town centre, but in recent times had been living in Naas, Co Kildare.
The judge said it was "very disappointing" that her addictions issues still seemed to be a significant problem.
He warned that Williamson and the other young woman were "preying on older men" and that the details were "fairly gross".
Judge Ó Donnabháin imposed a three-year prison sentence but agreed to suspend the final 18 months. He dated the sentence from October 25.
